We are pleased that you have decided to stay with us. We would like to give you some important information on how to get here in advance.
Check-in: from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Check-out: from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Please note that our reception is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Should you arrive or depart outside of these times, we kindly ask you to inform us no later than the day before. If you are leaving before 8:00 a.m., please pay your room bill by 7:00 p.m. the evening before.
The Hotel Sonnenberg is situated on an elevated position above Grindelwald, about 10-15 minutes' walk from Grindelwald village station. It is situated on a small ascending mountain path and can only be reached on foot for the last 200 metres.
Arrival by car
Our parking lot is located approx. 200m below the hotel. Drive to the Grindelwald train station and take the small road that leads up the mountain between the Post Office and the Hotel Kreuz & Post. Follow the signs to "Hotel Sonnenberg" and after approx. 500m you will reach our small car park next to the Chalet Bergidyll (Kreuzweg 30). The parking lot is also labeled “Hotel Sonnenberg”. From there, an ascending footpath leads about 200 meters up to the hotel.
As an alternative to our car park, we recommend the Eiger + public car park in the center of the village at the Coop supermarket. Or you can reserve parking spaces online in the newly built Grund Park terminal, costs approx.. CHF 10.00 for 24 hours. From there you can reach the village center in 5 minutes by bus or train. Especially in high season and on weekends, we recommend travelling by train.
Arrival by train to Grindelwald
You can reach Grindelwald comfortably and climate-friendly by public transport. International trains from over 12 countries run in and through Switzerland. Especially with the slightly faster Intercity trains you can get to Interlaken Ost quickly, if not directly, then with a change in Bern. In Interlaken-Ost, change to the Bernese Oberland Railway in the direction of Grindelwald. Pay attention to the announcements and the lettering on the outside of the train. The train wagons are separated in Zweilütschinen, the front part continues to Lauterbrunnen, the rear part continues on the way to Grindelwald. Stay seated until the end station Grindelwald Dorf.
Luggage special with SBB
And so that you don't have to haul your luggage yourself, we offer you an attractive luggage service together with SBB: Your suitcases and bags will be picked up from your home and will be waiting for you on arrival in your hotel room. Arriving by plane
- Zurich-Kloten airport approx. 196 km: All major airlines have connections to Zurich-Kloten. Thanks to its own train station, you can benefit from direct hourly connections to Bern. The journey to Grindelwald by train or car is around 2 hours.
- Basel-Mulhouse airport approx. 173 km: Basel-Mulhouse is a somewhat smaller airport, which is nevertheless served by some larger airlines such as Swiss, Easyjet, Air France, Lufthansa etc. The bus takes you quickly to Basel train station and from there to Grindelwald in around 2 hours. The car is only a little bit faster.
- Geneva-Cointrin airport approx. 207 km: Geneva airport also has its own train station with direct trains to Bern. It takes about 3 hours to get to Grindelwald by train or by car.
